Re-sanding
Jointing sand is lost in the early stages of pavement life due
to wind, rain, traffic and termites. It is therefore, advisable
that pavements are inspected and re-sanded at regular intervals.
In areas where there's a likelihood of termites attack it is
recommended that insecticides be sprayed before paving commence. Weed growth
Weeds occasionally grow in the joints between blocks as a result
of wind blown seeds. If there is any chance of having weeds its
recommended that herbicides should be mixed into the bedding
and jointing sands or sprayed onto the finished paving. Efflorescence "let nature take its course"
Efflorescence is white deposit, which is apparent either as white
particles or as an overall lightening in colour. It's highly
recommended that efflorescence be allowed to disappear naturally
to avoid damage by an acid wash.
Oil stains
Oil stains should be scrubbed with a hard bristle brush and a strong
detergent to wash off with water. In areas where oil stains are
obvious such as on a garage forecourt. It is advisable that coloured
blocks are used to reduce visibility of the stains.
Abrasion
Abrasion occurs when paved blocks have been subjected to intense
trafficking. Since it does not affect the structural integrity
of the paving there is no alarm, provided the blocks of adequate
strength. The degree of abrasion diminishes with time.
